Hear Me Out
Hear Me Out takes music-making into UK immigration detention centres, asylum hotels and similar settings to release the words, music and life stories of people held inside. We help people to express their humanity through music – to air their losses and fears, their hopes and their dreams. And we help people on the outside to hear the music and understand the lives of people trapped inside. We’re working for the day when all migrants are treated with dignity.
The Lightbulb Trust is supporting Hear Me Out to develop its new programme of intensive work with individuals who have spent time in immigration detention centres and detention-like asylum centres. This programme provides flexible, holistic support, through collaboration and relationships. It offers a two-way exchange of skills, in which HMO supports people’s creative development and they support co-creation in HMO’s organisational structures. Wrapped around both is our practical and emotional support package. It can be a lifeline, helping build resilience through connection to others, creative outlets, and escape from daily stress.
