Hornimans Playground
Hornimans Adventure Playground has been at the heart of one of London’s most disadvantaged communities for over 60 years, using play as a tool to help children overcome the challenges of poverty, overcrowded housing, and limited access to outdoor spaces. Every year, we support over 500 children, many from families where more than 80% live in poverty.
In an area with limited outdoor space, Hornimans offers a vital resource for play, which is essential for healthy emotional, social, and cognitive development. Our playground provides a safe environment for children to build life skills, keep physically active, and connect with their peers. We also have resident pygmy goats!
With outdoor space scarce and challenges like childhood obesity, social isolation, and educational disadvantage on the rise, Hornimans is an irreplaceable part of the community. We also run tailored programmes for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, helping them reduce isolation and develop independence, while offering respite for families.
The Lightbulb Trust is providing crucial support to Hornimans by funding essential improvements to outdated equipment, laying the foundation for much-needed improvements of the playground and ensuring we continue to provide a safe, supportive space for children in the future.
