Fit For Life Youth
Fit For Life Youth CIO (FFLY) is a grassroots youth charity based in North Kensington, dedicated to positively impacting the lives and wellbeing of children and young people through youth work, sport, health and fitness. FFLY creates safe, trusted spaces where young people aged 6–18 can build confidence, resilience and life skills that prepare them to be truly “fit for life”. Operating from its HQ on Freston Road and also from Lancaster Youth Hub and Chelsea Youth Club, areas where almost 25% of children live in poverty, FFLY delivers after-school clubs, holiday programmes, amateur boxing, youth leadership opportunities, employability pathways and SEND provision.
In 2018 FFLY operated on a solely voluntary basis and then progressed to a CIC from 2019 onwards. In September 2024 FFLY became a registered charity and continued expanding its reach across Kensington and Chelsea, responding to the growing need for safe youth spaces.
FFLY’s theory of change is rooted in the understanding that when young people have access to consistent role models, structured programmes and a sense of belonging, they are more likely to develop the confidence and discipline needed to make positive life choices. Through combining physical activity, particularly boxing, one of FFLY’s core strengths, with personal development and life skills, the charity addresses challenges such as low confidence, poor mental well-being, isolation and limited opportunity.
More than 90% of young people report leaving FFLY programmes feeling more confident, motivated and connected. The organisation is deeply embedded in its community, working in partnership with local schools, the council and other voluntary sector organisations, and is committed to safeguarding, inclusion and equity in all aspects of its delivery.
With support from the Lightbulb Trust, Fit For Life Youth will deliver a two-year Girls Peer-Led Personal Development Programme for 14–16 girls aged 13–19 in Kensington and Chelsea. This £20,000 investment will fund structured fortnightly sessions focused on confidence, resilience, leadership, communication and healthy relationships, alongside enrichment activities that broaden horizons and strengthen peer bonds.
Year 1 will centre on building a strong, supportive cohort, while Year 2 will enable participants to step into peer leadership roles, co-delivering sessions and mentoring younger girls. Through this partnership, the Lightbulb Trust will help create a dedicated, empowering space for young women to develop the skills, voice and self-belief they need to thrive—ensuring that no girl in our community is left behind but, instead, supported to grow into a confident leader of her own future.
