Nucleo
Nucleo changes young lives through music. We use music to build communities and empower young people, supporting them to thrive. Based in North Kensington and Westminster, our unique after-school music education programme is completely free, immersive and comprehensive. Working with children and young people from 0–20, we offer long-term opportunities for musical progression, social inclusion and personal development. Nucleo’s community programme currently works with 425+ children and young people a year, with places prioritised for students from the most disadvantaged local neighbourhoods.
Quality music education has been found to improve educational and social outcomes for children and young people, but many are shut out of the life-enhancing experiences that music education offers because of its cost. Children from households earning less than £28,000 are half as likely to be learning an instrument as those earning £48,000 or more. By offering a comprehensive free programme in an area of significant inequality, Nucleo is putting music education and its transformational benefits within reach of children who would otherwise be excluded.
The LightbulbTrust is supporting Nucleo’s core operating costs, providing funding to help us sustain and develop our work and evaluate its impact.
