WLAC
West London Action for Children is a small, local, independent charity that provides free, time-unlimited, counselling and therapy for vulnerable local children, young people and families. The families they support are on low incomes and live in Hammersmith & Fulham or Kensington & Chelsea.
WLAC was established in 1917 with much the same ethos as today – to support and empower families under stress to develop their confidence and skills to cope with the challenges of family life, which may include domestic violence, abuse, poverty, resettlement, bereavement, anxiety and depression, and isolation. Their objective is for children and their parents to receive free specialist help, supporting improved mental health, life-enhancing adjustments in relationships and self-perception, and better relationships with peers and adults.
WLAC’s team of professionally trained therapists come from a variety of therapeutic backgrounds and approaches, but have a common thread in using solution-focused, strengths-based, client-led interventions. They believe that the clients are the experts in their lives and possess the strengths and skills to achieve positive change.
The partnership with the Lightbulb Trust will provide extra resource for WLAC’s individual counselling and therapy service. This confidential space allows clients a safe space to open up about issues and challenges that they face, without fear of stigma or judgement.
