Power The Fight
Power The Fight is an award-winning charity and was launched in 2019 as a direct response to the UK’s rapid increase in serious violence affecting young people and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable and minority communities. We recognise this increase in violence as an urgent but complex public health crisis with multiple and inter-related causative factors including racial injustice, trauma, lack of early intervention, reduction in statutory services and social inequality, all of which have been impacted by the social and economic impacts of Covid-19 and the subsequent cost of living crisis (with a disproportionate impact on Black and minority ethnic communities).
Our aim is to be the conduit between communities, statutory agencies and policy makers. We create co-produced/ co-designed long-term strategies for sustainable structural change. Most of our work is with young people, families, schools, local authorities, faith groups and community organisations who want to be equipped to engage with issues related to violence affecting young people, ultimately creating more peaceful communities.
Since 2019, we have worked with 417 young people, 61 families and trained 13,306 professionals and community members.
The Lightbulb Trust is supporting Power The Fight’s Therapeutic Intervention for Peace (TIP) project – an innovative and culturally sensitive model of partnership work which aims to reduce interpersonal youth violence through preventative, holistic and whole systems change that addresses the cycle of trauma, poor mental health and violence affecting young people.
