Amnesty International UK
This collaboration with Amnesty International UK and the School Library Association supports young people to know, understand and stand up for their rights. It will give 600 copies of Amnesty International’s book Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth to school libraries in London and other marginalised areas of the UK, as well as linked teaching resources. The book, which explains the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) in simple language, was written by Amnesty International, Angelina Jolie and child rights lawyer Professor Geraldine Van Bueren, with the inputs of hundreds of young people. Under the Convention, all children should be educated about their rights, but a YouGov poll of summer 2021 found that 83% of UK children aged 8-15 know little or nothing about them. This partnership aims to help remedy that.
